To take part in the course you need to:  

• Arrive on time allowing for traffic and finding where the course is being held. You will be turned away if you are late. 
• Bring a pen 
• Bring proof of your identity: a current New Zealand Driver's Licence or Passport, or one of these options. 

DO NOT bring a firearm to the course.   

Course Details:   

• Shortly after the course begins you will sit a firearms theory test.    
• You will then take part in a practical firearms safety training.   
• If you do not pass the theory test you will re-sit the test after the practical training.   

Here's what we suggest before you sit the course:

• Get to know the 2022 Firearms Safety Code and ensure you know about the safe use of firearms.
• Complete the e-learning modules and safety quiz 
• Thoroughly learn, understand and follow the refreshed 7 rules of firearm safety.
• Learn how to ensure your firearms are securely transported and stored to prevent them from getting into the wrong hands. 
• Watch the Mountain Safety Council videos on the 7 Basic Rules of Firearm Safety      

Interpreters and Reader/Writers   

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide these services, but you are welcome to bring someone to help you in these areas. Please email us at firearms@mountainsafety.org.nz to let us know who will be attending with you.

If you cannot attend the course you are booked on, make sure to cancel your booking as soon as possible. You can do this at www.firearmsafety.org.nz if you created an account, or by emailing firearms@mountainsafety.org.nz. Please stay at home if you are sick. less
